이 과목은 미생물에 관한 이해를 돕고, 생물반응기 내에서 미생물 생장과 산물 생성의 메커니즘을 알아봄으로써 실제 배양에 대한 기본 지식을 늘리고자 한다. 이들의 대사 반응에 관여되는 발효과정과 조절현상을 분석하고 미생물을 이용하는 여러 방법론에 대해 강의한다.
